I've been a fan of him since he played Schoolboy in Rambo 4. He was in a lot of big movies in the 2000s like Black Hawn Down, Rambo 4, Resident Evil: Extinction, Transformers 2.
But, as he says in this interview, he stopped getting big movies around 2010 after the Huffington Post wrote a hit piece about him going to a conservative charity event.
It was a good interview. I wish he talked about himself more. He spent like 45 minutes talking about working with Sylvester Stallone.
Matt talks about breaking through from British TV to American film in Hollywood, the drawbacks of working within the system, inherent problems with having a conscience in Hollywood (e.g. wanting to respect the source, wanting to respect masculinity, and wanting to create entertainment instead of sending
athe message).I wouldn't have been able to pick Matt out of a lineup before this interview, but now I'd like to see more of his work, especially if he's listed as a producer and not just an actor.
There's a good hour of Sly worship worked in at the beginning, which might be a bonus, because look at his friggin shoulders in Rocky II.
"I am a meat puppet. I say what other people write." is the most self-aware statement coming out of Hollywood in the last 30 years.
I saw that part. I plan on listening to the full interview
