I think it's just a case of sexually brainwashing and mutilating children being something that's so absolutely foul on a basic, primal level that it's simply impossible to mindbreak enough people to make it mainstream. There's a certain percentage of people who can be bullied into going along with absolutely anything, but most people can only bend so far before they snap back.
