That was before any schmuck could make an AK-47 out of a shovel in their garage. Like the Americans say, people shouldn't fear the government. The government should fear the people. And we have the technology to make that happen.

Whether we will make that happen is another question entirely, but we can try.

Even assuming you're correct, unless you're running a black powder AK-47 sourcing ammunition for it is going to be considerably more complex.

Even making black powder isn't risk-free.

I'm sure there's ways to make proper ammo at home. If crafty people can make homemade explosives using assorted chemicals, then I'm sure someone can figure out a way to make proper smokeless gunpowder at home. All it takes then is to publish the process and everyone can do it.

They couldn't ban The Anarchist's Cookbook, they won't be able to ban any processes on producing homemade powder.

There certainly are ways to make proper ammo at home.

Unfortunately there are also quite a few ways immediately adjacent to that to lose a limb.
