What kind of lawyer does this guy have? They do understand that the federal government have to prove that his actions were against the law, right? Saying the election was stolen is not breaking the law.
Unfortunately, unless you're willing to martyr yourself, pleading out is often the right call, even if you've done nothing wrong. Weirdly, in this case, it looks like he was "only" looking at eighteen months...so he plead down to cut nine months out. He wasn't looking at 20 years or something. Maybe he should have fought, although there's the issue of money, too. The government can use the money they steal from you to prosecute you - as well as defend themselves from the consequences of their own wrongdoing - but if they accuse you of something you're on the hook for your massive legal fees.
Going against the regime is breaking the only law that they care about: if you do that, they will destroy you.
