I get WHY loan forgiveness is seen as taxable income (to prevent a loophole to evade the gift tax by simply loaning and forgiving) but it's still fucking stupid, because obviously a person who is genuinely having their debt written off for INABILITY TO PAY... CAN'T PAY TAXES ON IT EITHER.
