There have been multiple black actors in the recent Star Wars shows, and there was no pushback. Their roles were fairly well received.
The reason some people are upset is obvious: They quite reasonably expect Obi-Wan Kenobi to be the main character and primary focus of a series named Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Disney is taking a page directly out of the 2016 Ghostbusters playbook here by shouting "sexism" and "racism." Oddly enough that script was leaked too, and there was speculation that it was done intentionally to generate controversy and therefore interest in that movie. Can't help but wonder if that's the case here.
Shouting racism and sexism has been Disney's defense against criticism of their film has been their MO for a while now. I remember they tried to imply racism towards anyone who gave Black Panther a bad review.
