Against their ideology? The ideology of the left has always been power for power's sake. They can dress it up in whatever flowery egalitarian language they like, but what draws people to the left is the idea of centralized control, of being one of the shapers of the perfect society, of being a part of the Inner Party.
They are fundamentally no different from the globalists. Communism was the original globalism: they were using the language of the international proletariat and "workers of the world unite" more than a century ago. The fundamental line through all of it has been: Trust us to solve your problems for you.
They latch on to whatever globalist program is being rolled out next because they perceive that doing so is a path to more power and influence. That's all there is to them.
Yup, because old-school socialism is generally utterly repellent to the people it claims to be for (the modern intersectional variant will be once it's full impact becomes known, I suspect) about the only way die-hards can advance their agenda is to co-opt somebody else's. As such, they will always tend to favour the most authoritarian implementation of government for one simple reason:
Which is easier, to convince an entire population that this year's socialism is what's best for them or to convince one dictator to force socialism upon the populace?
