Hey guys. Long-time lurker here. I've been watching both the culture war and world news, and recently there's been something that I haven't seen anyone really talk about. So here I am giving my thoughts.
Many companies have left the Russian market after their invasion of Ukraine. Aviation companies, tech companies, sports organizations, now even the big boys like Visa, Mastercard and PayPal are pulling out.
I think that what we're witnessing is the cancellation of an entire nation, which is the next step in cancel culture. And it will set a terrible precedent.
People can argue that Russia's cancellation is justified because of the Ukraine war, but that's not relevant at all.
This genie is out of the bottle now. If it's happened before it can happen again, and for less and less serious offenses.
What's that? Your country refuses to cave in to the wokists and implement Diversity, Inclusivity and Equity policies? We're going to cancel you until you change your mind, then maybe we'll demand more and more concessions because nothing you ever do will be enough.
No nation in the world is going to be safe, except Daddy China, because the wokists will never go after China even though they're actually genociding minorities. The only way to save your nation from this would be to become self-sufficient, and that would be extremely difficult in this financialized, globalist economy.
We seem to live in very dark times. Nation-states are becoming irrelevant in favor of a globalist woke order.
What do you guys think? Am I right on the money with this or am I over-reacting to recent events?
This is so monumentally stupid for various reasons.
Russia and China have always been a check to American power precisely because they are relatively secure from American naval power, so trade organisations that use the US Dollar for oil act as a financial mesh for countries to have no choice but to live under the American umbrella. Western companies have always acted as a golden handcuff to foreign powers.
This is corporations undoing decades of American foreign policy on a strategic level and I'm not sure anyone in the white house knows or cares. And the dumbest part is that it directly harms american and corporate interests. If they are not part of the corporate system they cannot be controlled or influenced by it.
This does seem like a very short-sighted move. It seems likely that there will be many consequences which we can scarcely imagine, but I doubt they've put any thought into this before proceeding with Russia's cancellation.
It hurt itself in its confusion.
