Wasn't diesel marketed as a cleaner fuel to fight climate change? Would be a great angle to hit back if I'm remembering correctly.

I think so, specifically Volkswagen. But, then it came out that they were fudging their numbers, as is tradition.

I think you are thinking of biodiesel. It can be cleaner and requires like oil. Most trucks run on some form of it today.

Not just bio, diesel engines are more efficient than gas engines.
