They were talking about this on the news in 2018 when I was there. End of Japan was my thought. Not that the larger centers are “really” Japanese even at this point - the smaller cities are still awesome.
It’s like going to any large city. There is a cultural veneer, but it’s no different than Toronto or New York. When you go outside of the larger cities you can find what might be more traditional Japanese culture, and in my opinion, for what it’s worth, it is much nicer.
Oh I see. I wasn't sure if you meant physically different as opposed to culturally different. You meant consumerist culture vs traditional and authentic Japanese culture. Yeah I've seen the same phenomenon in Poland as well between the tourist cities and the small towns.
