While EVS has a point there, there's definitely an issue of visibility and promotion when it comes to both publishing and supporting indy books. Having to do everything direct-order puts a huge amount of work on the artist doing the book when it comes to marketing and getting their book out there in front of the eyes of potential fans. There have been a ton of books that I found out about way too late in their IndieGoGo or Kickstarter campaigns to be able to chip in and get a copy. This is further compounded by the creator not doing reprints or ondemand publishing, leaving the potential reader without a good jumping-on point.
