TBF, when I was 4 I was jealous that the boys could run around without a shirt & I couldn't. Also, the boys Happy Meal toys were always better. To me, boy = cooler toys & easier swimsuits (plus, no fussing with hair curlers). Who could say no to that? At one point I also wanted to change my name to something stupid that I forget now.
But I got to play dress-up with my mom's old clothes and that made up for it.
My point is - toddlers have absolutely no idea about gender or sex, they need guidance for it all to click.
