I was working off of "bayt" meaning "house" in Arabic proper - I had guessed there would be some corruption moving that far east, and "bayt" - "bayd" - "bad" isn't much of a stretch.

Based on the usage of "abad", it seems both words had a common root, though it may have been Aramaic or earlier.
