This two-year suspension will prevent Trump from using Facebook or Instagram to broadcast to his followers until after the 2022 U.S. mid-term elections.
And therein lies the real point of this: influencing the election.
The question is, why give a two year term rather than make it permanent? I can think of a couple possibilities:
They want to make a spectacle of banning Trump again right before the next presidential election to try to portray him as "dangerous".
In case against all odds the Republicans do manage to win big at some point in the future and they have the backbone to actually hold big tech accountable.
I think part of it is that they don't know the ramifications of trying to do it during an election yet. Another part is that they want to seem reasonable. "See? We're not doing a permanent ban. It's all up to his behavior."
What will end up happening is that if Trump runs, they will have some fake outrage just like Jan 6 and then say they regretfully must keep him off of their platform for being too dangerous.
It's all moot because Trump realizes he needs his own platform to have a voice. What they do literally doesn't matter.

Why? When have your masters ever been held liable to the peasant's laws?
They banned him without issue when he was already in the white house l, why would banning him while he's running be a problem?
