I can believe some jumped up SJW would change it for whatever deranged reason they came up with that day, but it's just as easy to believe a corporation being careful when it comes to potential litigation from a confrontational asshole.
I went and looked up past lawsuits and all I have seen is one done over the re-use of created works which fall under some forms of copyright laws. I have seen no indications of suing over the use of the name from him or the company that makes the special paint.

He only trademarked the application of an actual product, not the name to be used in fiction.

Except OP is wrong. The hero's name isn't Vantablack. That's the name of one of his moves. The hero's quirk name, though, is straight-up "Black".
"Bulaakku". Black.
