Memory serves it was because he banned it on a moral stance, instead of a logistical one. Nobody would question a blanket "we don't want NSFW stuff on the platform" that would be taken seriously.
All of us can go round and round about whether porn makes society worse, but when you start making exceptions to free speech because you find certain things "gross" that's when people start to question your commitment to principles. Because that's how it always starts.
Now whether we have to compromise to find the one site that survives right now is much more valid a topic, but many people's initial distaste for them was based on that virtue signal.
That's my point. If you just don't want nudity that's a fine line. We all get it.
But the moral grandstanding and the "we decided that this isn't censorship because we don't like it" is a completely different thing. Because that's literally the same logic everyone we hate uses, but we are supposed to trust these guys based on "nah we won't promise."
Even people here are consumed by their own personal distaste and willing to compromise any principle just to own the "coomers" by just declaring something "not censorship, no free speech violation."
