I dislike this sentiment. The majority voted for this, but the minority didn't, and most of the time, it's the imposed-upon minority that are getting the shaft of these policies, from the imposing majority.
Democracy is simply the tyranny of the majority. That's why a republic makes more sense, because a majority (or in this case, a plurality) of voters can choose tyrannical policies with the defense that "the people want it", then beating the minority over the head with said policies.
