But seriously please bring back rude villagers, we dont need cardboards with no personality and that do nothing but cater to the player's every whim and stroke the player's ego,. Maybe some * ahem * people * ahem * (like the kind on polygon and twitter that gets offended by space bun hair to the point that they slandered, bullied, harassed , doxed and sent death threats to a girl over video game hair) might be upset if villagers actually had a personality and didn't treat them some kind of god, but i say they need to toughen up a bit.
It's a good point, but I recall there being more personality in general for AC1 villagers. Perhaps we should merely be blaming the scriptwriters, or even the localizers.
It's almost like an accidental commentary on the destruction of communities over time in the real world. Things and features are given in each sequel, but at the same time, the personalities grow shallower. Now you get some nice customization features, but you end up feeling like your neighbors are a nuisance (this realization made me quit playing). What's it all worth? All the comforts and securities, it's nothing without humanity, some inkling of depth, a teasing that maybe you can enjoy your neighbors (even when they act out against you, as your link portrays) in a game even if you can't in reality.
Shadow of War is one of my favorite games, and one thing I appreciate about the story is that nearly every major character tolerates each other at best, and is one bad remark from straight betraying the other. That's without getting into the fact that every enemy is an evil, monstrous orc but still had to be given personality and charisma so you end up liking them.
Much better than most games treating you like you are a savior and having a circle of allies at the very least.
I used to love AC as a kid, and was hyped as hell for the latest one, bought it on release even and it just feels lifeless.
I don't even know, maybe its because you have to actually build the village up or what, it just doesn't feel like it used to.
"like the kind on polygon and twitter that gets offended by space bun hair to the point that they slandered, bullied, harassed , doxed and sent death threats to a girl over video game hair." This was so obnoxious but if I never have to read "afro puffs" again it will be too soon. Sounds like a horrible cereal. I guess Caucasian women with curly hair don't exist.
