Queer is a catch all word for anyone that's not straight and not trans and not non-binary etc. . Whereas "gay " just means homosexual.

gay, bi , trans, "non binary" queer is basically anything that isnt a "cis and heterosexual"(though i dont like to use the word cis) i think.
