It's because it's really easy to show big numbers and scream that new hot spots are appearing when you only give it a minute or two on CNN before switching back to bashing the President. When you actually look at the overall death rate it's a fucking joke, and that's not even accounting for over classification.

EDIT: To add, the harshest lockdowns occurred under Dem. governors. Now they claim this is for public safety, but if they released lockdowns like South Dakota or Florida, and case numbers barely go up, then they'll be blamed for everything. Guess in their mind it's better to just let everything burn down around them and be right than ever admit to being wrong.
