I don't like too much stoner/sludge, though Kyuss always hit that sweep spot with me and have out of the gate. I think Melvins fucks too though I need to be in a proper mood to really enjoy them -- usually after a bad date with a pretty lady who wouldn't stop glancing at her phone in my view. Those are some normie bands of the genre so I reckon you know of them, but just in case you don't do Welcome to Sky Valley for Kyuss and Senile Animal for Melvins.

Early The Fall of Troy resonates with me the best as my username should show. I feel like Thomas is running out of ideas as the later material sounds like a cheap imitator (or doppelganger, if you will) that you'd find playing a local dive because they cost nothing to book.

More recently I've been diving into bands that took implicit, if not explicit, influence from the Fall of Troy and other bands like them: Dance Gavin Dance, Hail the Sun, Eidola, etc. The guitarist for Dance Gavin Dance, Will Swan, made a record company called Blue Swan Records specifically for bands that catered to that "progressive post-hardcore" sound. As a consequence, fans started colloquially and controversially referring to that flavor of music as "swancore". I like the name since it encompasses a subgenre of hardcore that hits that sweep spot for me and there are specific elements that I know will exist if tagged with that name. Some good examples:

Dance Gavin Dance - Lemon Meringue Tie
Dance Gavin Dance - NASA
Dance Gavin Dance - Deception

DGD have had three different clean vocalists throughout their lifespan so I pulled one of each.

Hail The Sun - Will They Blame Me If You Go Disappearing?
Eidola - Caustic Prayer

Lastly, the good ol' Beatles have been climbing up my pecking order. I gave Abbey Road a spin about a month ago and it finally clicked for me. It's an album that you need to hear from start to finish, especially the medley on the B-side.
