I've been describing it as a drug. People act like feeling empathy for others is a virtue or a state of spiritual enlightenment. I don't know if that's because of biological programming or we've been conditioned to think this way, but really empathy is just hormones (possibly based around mirror neurons), and can be triggered in us the same way seeing boobs triggers lust. It has a purpose in social animals, but it's been thoroughly abused now that we interact with people all around the globe. We naturally feel good when we feel empathy for someone, and if that someone is pitiable, we try to do something to fix it. Once we think we've done something (we don't actually have to do anything - just think we did) we feel satisfied and happy again.

I feel satisfied when I fuck random strangers every week. What's wrong with that?

I feel happy when I drink alcohol every night. Happiness is good right?

I feel warm and fuzzy when I help others. So I'm going to vote my nation give everything we have to outside nations and let all the world's poor huddled masses live in my country. (just not in my backyard)

Should be obvious to see how just like whores prey on simps by triggering lust, anyone can be preyed on by triggering the empathetic response. People becoming aware of that is the first step in stopping the abuse. The next step is noticing who is doing this to us and why...
