To give you an honest opinion that isn't just spamming about the gay stuff Baldur's Gate 3 has been grossly overhyped the same way Cyberpunk 2077 has. Examining it purely from the gameplay and story perspective, the story really isn't that interesting and what's more annoying you realise that most of the reviews are by shills who haven't even gotten past Act 2 despite the many reviews posted. If you look at the negative ones they're far more honest and many of them mention that Larian didn't even put in a proper epilogue towards the end so all your choices ultimately end up being meaningless despite there being a silly little cinematic that shows bugger all.

Gameplay wise again I would class it as 'not terrible'. However there have been multiple performance problems reported which are still being fixed. Gameplay breaking bugs have allegedly been dealt with now in the later versions however there are some incredibly gimmicky and annoying. I spotted plenty of balance problems that people have made threads about and still haven't been addressed.

A lot of the problems are happening in the game because they rushed the release in order to beat Starfield to the punch but underestimated how bad Starfield would be so it turned out to be a complete waste of time. I have a bit of a mini list of the things that pissed me off.

. The turn based RNG combat isn't as bad Xcom 2 thankfully and you can do finessing to increase your chances but it's still fairly annoying, environments etc. and positioning make a big difference to your chances. I like that you can setup proper ambushes in the game and you can even surprise the enemy giving you one extra turn over them.

. Jumping mechanics are cancer and it's because they didn't do box selection and other useful mechanics for dealing with multiple party members so you have to constantly fiddle about getting past certain sections that have the jump mechanics as a requirement for puzzles. The AI pathfinding is poor and not even because of the coding the studios' designers just did a bad job and didn't think the mechanic through

. Dice roll animations are gay as fuck and can't be skipped fast enough even with the skipping option, should be able to disable entirely

. People praise the dice roll mechanic for skill checks thinking it's cool which just shows you how cancer normies are for game mechanics because this is a game for normies, if you're trying to progress through the game it's save scumming for you even on the lowest difficulty settings

. Some stuff is outright broken still even with the latest versions like traps it was gimmicky and annoying in Divinity 2 and it's annoying in BG3 and again thanks to the borked party movement its very easy to accidentally set stuff off which can even sometimes break the game

. Balance problems abound, they didn't test anything in a lot of cases so you have NPCs fucking off to corners of the map to find high ground and they become very annoying to deal with, they patched some of this behaviour but it's clear the wankers aren't going to fix it any time soon

. I've bitched about this but classes aren't exactly fun sometimes, they seem to have introduced certain classes as gimmicks like Bard, Barbarian, Sorcerer etc. and the other more standard RPG classes are forgotten about or seem weak by comparison

. I don't know if they're still in and truly fixed, but there's certain bits of dialogue even this long after release that have still been broken somehow or there's content missing again because of their silly rushing of the release

. Inventory management is also cancer, difficult to play around with your inventory and clear stuff out as you normally would or even organise it. Quest items have weight and you can often end up accidentally selling them if you're not careful and you don't know whether it's okay to sell something or not since they don't mark properly whether it's quest related which is a major pet peeve of mine and they seemed to have coded the inventory in the laziest way possible

Hope that clears things up and gives you an actual review of BG3 mechanics other people have bitched about the story plenty already but I don't think people talk about how bad some of the mechanics are. As far as I'm concerned the only real reason to play the game is Minthara and it does look like they cut quite a bit of content for her to begin with her story seems a bit incomplete to me or limited.

Maybe if you were really bored and I mean really bored you could stand playing it but the jump and diceroll mechanics were pure agony for me and a classic example for me on what not to do with RPG mechanics. Dicerolls in conversation skill checks are a total no go, at the very least they could have given you a cheat option to make it more bearable if you didn't want to deal with that or some binary option but no they had to insist on giving it some gimmicky D&D behaviour.

With all of these problems that BG3 has it's lead me to believe there's definitely some major astroturfing going on with that game on the steam reviews or at the very least it's the normie factor. This kind of crap is also why these days I'm perfectly happy coding my own stuff and I find it entertaining. A lot of the normie people who play games have zero taste and don't know what they're talking about though that's par for the course with anything they commentate on.
