To answer your question, modern films these days seem to be a bunch of poorly mismatched separately done takes and the editor tries to piece them together. It's meant to be the director's job to make sure everything makes sense but it really does seem like everyone in Hollywood can't be arsed anymore and then they wonder why no one is going to cinemas.
