It depends on what it is, I get the triumph over adversity argument, but to counter that it's like some people are telling men to swim upstream a rapid when there's a fucking bridge right next to them and they'll get kicked off it if they try using it.

Edit: In other words there's a big difference between triumph over adversity and then deliberately damaging yourself over the long term for the sake of not upsetting people around you or making a positive change for yourself by getting out of toxic environment.
