I'm amazed they finally admitted this. Anime has a similar problem with game based anime and Isekai. The show has to be something pretty decent or have an intriguing concept for me to watch it these days otherwise it's an automatic drop because you can usually tell the entire plot from the first episode. This is why Frieren is getting so much praise because even a standard fantasy story is a major breath of fresh air these days in the age of neverending Isekai harem spam. Oversaturation of a market is such a basic concept.

it just shows you what trend followers these studios really are at the end of the day. Something that I'm planning on doing is the exact opposite of following the herd. I'm going to keep an eye on trends and if I see one trend being spammed way too much I'm going to pick a different genre to go for. I don't understand why more businesses don't at least try this to see if they get a different reception but that would require not being the uppity douchebags they clearly are.
