I think most people are simply brainwashed by science fiction into believing it, and NPCs/normies always act like they're living out a movie. Science fiction movies gave us the two main conceits of "when computers become complex enough, intelligence magically appears out of silicon" and "AI that becomes powerful enough will destroy humanity". Actually maybe your suspected profile fits most science fiction authors. Not smart enough to be researchers or engineers, but smart enough to speculate about future technology, and write glorious poetry about their utopian visions for mankind.

People getting truly fooled by this might be a good measure for who the dimwits are. They are fooled because they actually aren't much smarter than these text generators. And much like a text generator, you can program them with the correct combination of words.
