It's because populists/greens are the new right/left split. Not just in Finland but in the West as a whole. The "classical" right/left split of labor vs. industry hasn't been relevant for 30 years since all the actual labor and industry has been outsourced to Asia.

The "major" parties have spent the last 2-3 decades milling about trying to find new causes, but it took the internet and social media for people to finally wake up to how pointless and redundant (and increasingly identical) the two "old" sides of politics have become.

The "takeover" in the US of the two parties by green wokies vs. MAGA is just another example.
