Apparently them nanny dogs making some 7% of all dogs in America, and most of dogs in these shady animal shelters. About which I've often wondered fucking why, since I only ever remember seeing 1 such murder mutant here in Poland and I'm not even sure was it really. Maybe they're just banned over here.

Some sample weirdness from the Best Friends Animal Society otherwise largely advertisment-like Wikipedia article:

BFAS publishes Best Friends, a bimonthly magazine about animals, animal welfare, news events, and activities at the sanctuary. The magazine, which is distributed free to members, has 200,000 subscribers.[23] Originating as Foundation magazine in 1975 with its interview of Charles Manson referred to as the "death" issue,[24] the first edition of Best Friends magazine was published in 1993, two years after the religious group became an animal sanctuary.[25]

Elsewhere:

Vincent Bugliosi, the prosecutor of the Manson trial, later suggested in his book Helter Skelter that Manson may have borrowed philosophically from the Process Church.[18] Although no connection between the Process Church and Manson was ever substantiated, the group's reputation was damaged by the association.[20] The number of donations received began to decline and Church members sometimes received abuse in public.[20] To shift the group's image, its leaders played down their image of black garments and Alsatians and presented a softer interpretation of their four divinities doctrine to limit the Satanic elements.[12]
