Robotech

That was good shit, I watched it either last year, or in 2021 (time goes by too fast), it was what my mom watched as a kid. I liked it a lot, it was interesting how much they valued music in a mecha anime.

sci-fi anime

Depends on if you want soft sci-fi, or harder sci-fi.

Steins;Gate is a fantastic anime (though the VN is better if you can play that, but if not its fine) and more of a hard sci-fi about time travel (actually done well!) with a lot of knowledge and information poured in, but mixed with a lot of very human themes, its a beautiful story to experience.

Neon Genesis Evangelion is a mix between soft and hard sci-fi, everyone knows about it of course, its quite an experience, things get crazy towards the end, its also a very personal story, but you have to be in a specific mood to appreciate it because it goes to some pretty dark places and Anno wrote it basing a lot of things about his own experience with depression, however the work has quite a world and its own lore and consistencies, and it has some good messages if you can sift past the obscurities, though its a mecha deconstruction so be aware of that.

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann is more soft sci-fi, but its an epic in 27 episodes I'd strongly recommend, I consider it the greatest anime of all time, and fellow imageboard chads around would likely agree on that. I have the best fansubs for episodes 1-19 (group died at that point), and my own edited subs for episodes 20-27 since the next best group couldn't meet the standards, so I heavily edited their's. Its the mecha that even people who hate mecha will love. (Please don't watch the dub, its horrible and I knew that from a blind first episode comparison when I was still new to anime outside of shounen jump, the JP VAs for this are so much better its not even funny). Its better if you just watch it without any information from me than that. Lemme know if you want the subbed episodes.

Fantasy anime

Here's the thing. There are a lot of isekai fantasy anime, but the MCs are usually normal people who are transported to a fantasy setting (sometimes akin to a fantasy RPG with game mechanics in the world), and that's usually an important thing to consider.

Conventional fantasy is a bit rarer unless you go to the olden days.

If you want some good isekai:

The big four are all good in their own ways. Re;Zero, Shield Hero (dunno about season 2 though), Overlord, and Mushoku Tensei are great, and Konosuba is a great isekai comedy.

If you want more specifics, Re:Zero is about a powerless college student age dude who transports to a fantasy world, and finds out he's weak as shit, and his only ability is to respawn after death... and that's pretty horrible when you realize how bad the world is, its quite a deconstruction of isekai often being a power fantasy, but it has its good themes and its tragic but interesting to see his experiences, and how he overcomes his obstacles.

Shield Hero is about a college dude who gets isekai'd into a fantasy RPG setting, but as the "Shield Hero", where the other 3 people who are isekai'd are spear, sword, and bow heroes, and he gets mistreated and literally cancelled by everyone, and has to struggle to survive against a society that literally hates him and tries to screw him over at every turn, and its quite interesting since he's industrious and becomes something of a tsundere moral pragmatist with a hidden heart of gold.

Mushoku Tensei is something my brother watched so I can't give much, I plan to watch it but I know its great and usually everyone loves it.

Overlord is an MMO junkie who gets isekai'd as a max-leveled character of his... and its just funny and interesting to experience, he ends up as an undead mage who has to grapple with a now unfamiliar world, but incredibly overpowered, and with a literal army and castle at his command, its amusing and entertaining.

If you want dark fantasy, Berserk's 97 adaptation is quite good (dub is great and worth watching), but you basically will have to read the manga afterwards, for reasons you will see. Very much worth watching imo.

If you want a great fantasy adventure anime, I suppose Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood fits that fairly well... its not tolkien fantasy though, more of an alchemy twist on it, but I think it fits well enough. Watch it with the dub, its a contender for the best dub of all time. Its fantastic and everyone loves it for well-deserved reasons.

I should let other people be able to discuss so I'll end the post here, I have way too much to say kek

Edit: fuck it, I'll just link the TTGL fansubbed episodes:
