You keep saying that the artwork of French comics is 'magnificent' and 'amazing', but is it really? The 'uniquely' European style is more gritty and realistic, which holds less appeal in general to the target audience of adolescent males.

The subject matter is also less appealing. Comic books about cowboys? Or abstract science fiction?

You also mention Asterix and Tintin. Asterix and Obelix has a great audience-friendly art-style, which has been consistent throughout, because in my understanding, only one artist has done the work. And he has hand-picked his successor(s?) The Asterix/Obelix franchise is still heavily popular and the stories are timeless. The new CGI movies have also made a world of difference, in comparison to the live-action versions (lol).

Whereas Tintin's artwork is heavily dated, with most of the stories taking place in the recent past, and as such holds less appeal to a modern audience.
