Anything James Lindsay says or does is a drop in the ocean. This is true for most internet commentators, even the big ones like Joe Rogan. Most normal people have no idea Joe Rogan even has a podcast, much less James Lindsay. The biggest impact this has is on younger people who are more internet connected but even among those, James Lindsay is a small voice.

While their messaging may still be worthwhile, I haven't seen any evidence that these voices on the internet are enough to be the deciding factor in the culture war.

The Left has been winning the culture war for three reasons:

  1. They co-opted the education system in this country decades ago and have slowly been ramping up their propaganda over time with each subsequent generation being more brainwashed than the last.

  2. They've been spreading their messaging via all popular media channels including Hollywood, television, pop music and news media. This also has been going on for decades.

  3. Perhaps the most significant: the Left's message is sexy, the Right's message is not:

  • No personal responsibility, the government is always there to bail you out, have promiscuous sex without consequences, have no shame for anything, punish the rich, punch Nazis, fight for civil rights, get free stuff... these all appeal to humanity's base instincts and are particularly likely to find traction among younger people.

  • Compare this to: take personal responsibility, "clean up your room", stand on your own two feet, work hard, have kids, raise a family, exercise self-discipline, put the needs of your children before your own, respect the liberty of others... none of these things are going to appeal to people naturally, especially when they are young. They only begin to resonate with people once they realize how devoid of meaning the alternative messages are, and many simply never reach that realization.

While I think people like James Lindsey will help us overcome #2 above, it will take time. The closest we've come to addressing #3 is Jordan Peterson who made personal responsibility attractive to a lot of young people, particularly men. We will see if this trend continues. But we still have no response to #1 except just to pull kids out of schools and homeschool. Maybe this is enough? Time will tell.
