Toxins, as in anything that is toxic to humans, has negative effects when absorbed, and must be eliminated by the human body.

Some toxins are obviously much worse than others, but even mild toxins can have seriously negative effects in large enough quantities and/or after being exposed to them for a long enough period of time.

There are toxins the air we breathe, liquids we drink, food we eat and on surfaces we touch every day. Our bodies are constantly eliminating toxins all the time, via various mechanisms, which is why they don't cause acute illness most of the time.
