Because actual Boomers (and Silents, the GenX of their day) were the hippie generation. I can't emphasize that enough. People keep treating them as if the Boomers were their parents (that is, the parents of the Boomers, who are essentially extinct).

The Silents were the First Teenagers, and the Beatniks, while the Boomers went on to Woodstock. The Yuppies weren't hippies, they were the business, science and engineering students who actually went to class instead of protesting .. the hippies went on to all of those institutions you mentioned. We saw as much in the Montreal school strike of a decade or so ago. The Humanities students tried to disrupt the classes of the STEM students.

Now, which side do you think was more prone to getting involved with all the cults of the 20th century? What happened to all the cult-minded people when the non-suicidal/murdery cults/arts and drugs communes broke up?

And on the other hand, we're talking about lineages of rich elites who all intermarry, and have been for generations. Entertainers marrying politicians, it all looks like a new royalty emerging out of Hollywood (the new Church) and the corporations (the new State.)

...I idly wonder if the real reason the old Church didn't want its priests and popes to marry was because it specifically wanted to avoid the creation of dynasties, and Jesus' marital standing had nothing originally to do with anything, that was just an excuse that came up later.
