People commit threats of violence all the time. It is sad, but true. But I do not call the cops and report a rape threat or the graveyard with a vandalism warning every time someone online in a chat room says they will forcibly fornicate with my deceased mother. Because it is within the fiction they've created for themselves. They are rapists and murderers within their own minds, but not, in 99.9999999% of cases, outside them.

I am infinitely forgiving, I suppose. Perhaps I should be reporting it, even if there's no risk of harming a living creature (or, likely speaking, even a risk to the graveyard site being dug up to fornicate with a skeleton, at the very least, no one online yet has gone through with the threat they'd fuck my mum as far as I can tell).

The world within one's own mind, is sacrosanct. You may wish to outlaw thought-crime, to have the government in every shadow of every house, waiting and watching, but alas, I choose freedom over slavery, freedom over what miniscule amount of extra safety such a measure may provide, for that safety would come at the cost of the safety of humanity long-term, the stasis of our civilization.

Call me when real harm is at immediate risk of happening, and I'll be right there to help defend you, or them. Call me after it happens, I'll be clamoring for proper punishment. But do not call upon me to police the minds of the world. For to me, there can be no greater evil than to stop all human progress, to stop Thought itself. And yes, that means Risk exists. It means the chance of Harm coming to some exists. Pain coming to me, to you, to our sires, or our progeny. And that's a high cost, but the product of "the continued existence of Humanity" is worth that price.

The line I draw is "real/fictional", my sarcasm in some other posts aside, because that line is "Exists/Thoughtcrime" in other words. A "threat" by legal standards is credible, it must present an immediate risk, and while there is much to be desired about the state of the world, that standard is live with-able. I do not wish to end the Protestant Church because scriptures note that people they are supposed to emulate within the books have murdered innocents for no good reason by modern morality standards, because people in real life can't summon bears to maul children that make fun of bald spots, and even if a bear trainer with a bald spot did exist that was sensitive about it, it would be highly unlikely he'd sic his animals upon the youth populations, even if the thought crossed his mind upon reading that tale.
