This is why I accuse them of being Human Worshippers. Basically, they're utter narcissists who worship themselves, and that's why they're afraid of being called animal names, and get every bit as upset as a creationist when you point out that humans are biologically still apes.

I had one of these think there's no real biological difference between a monkey and an ape (it has to do with the ability to brachiate) but a species basis to being a "person", and thought I was a racist somehow, for calling humans "monkeys" (I didn't, I called them apes, which is true.) This is the kind of narcissistic shit we're dealing with here.

But damn, do they sound like Special Creationists. I have less respect for the SC than the flat-out Creationists, just because ... it's even more weaselly. At least the flat out ones, everything was created, and Man was assigned (AHEM) to be Big Bad Boss .. by a god that generally looks suspiciously like a fucking human itself. All religions have some version of this. OK, fine. The SC are the ones who really twist science in that they think that evolution is either only for every other species except Man, that it still happens but not to Man, etc - they put Man on a pedestal WITHOUT ANY BASIS (no god, just "Man is bestest coz spears.") If another animals can be stereotroped, well, Man's stereotrope is that of a pathological narcissist. And these assholes are that in spades.
