I just generally despise Xcom 2's RNG which unfortunately forms the basis of all it's combat mechanics. It's not just the fact that the hit chance is ludicrous but also they went to the lengths of making sure you can't save scum it the way you can in other games if you get really bad RNG rolls. So that means if you don't tactically save at certain points you'll screw yourself in a mission and have to start over thanks to this weird mechanic they put in.

I remember reading a thread on reddit ( I know, don't shoot me ) but sometimes it's interesting getting normie opinions on this regarding BG3 and their awful RNG regarding dialogue. They keep trying to act like RNG is a form of storytelling and to a degree it is, but I sit there thinking "Do you guys actually restart the whole game when you fail despite their being a save/load function?" and the weirdos probably do which explains why so many of them don't get to the end of the game and give it a positive review.

Some RNG design is just awful, I like the setting, soundtrack and story a lot though.

Edit: By the way flanking an enemy technically does do something, I completely see your main point though, but this does go back to my bitching about Xcom 2's RNG, it was poorly designed and people need to stop pretending otherwise. A good RNG rewards you for making sound decisions during combat and before it with your loadout etc. it doesn't punish you for no fucking reason just for the lulz unless the developer is being a massive troll.
