They're not sites I ever go to, so I don't lose anything, and the posts themselves should still show up to report and downvote (for all the good that does), so in theory it should be a straight up upgrade of simply not seeing the actual images. Will report back if I find a good solution.

brave://settings/shields/filters (or something similar in Chrome/Firefox, look it up), and then just add a custom filter, for example:
