It's a miracle she survived, and that miracle's name is "Fire Control Team".

The ship was misidentified by the Israeli Navy as an Egyptian destroyer. The IAF relied on this misidentification, and only realized that it wasn't Egyptian when someone discovered that the ship's ID was written in Latin letters, rather than Arabic letters. From that point, the attack was called off.
