Obviously some text based / point and click adventure game which, devoid of its “storytelling” just about ceases to be a game at all, could be said to have “beaten” marathon to the punch, but I feel like you’re missing the point to argue that. It was pioneering because it had all these things and engaging gameplay (especially when considered for its time)
