I did some digging around and it looks like the fucking networking issues have been a problem for some time and I hadn't realised Rockstar admit this. So even if you're only interested in the singleplayer, the silly bastards incentivise piracy this way.
If the game still gets stuck while loading your Story Mode save game, there may be a problem with connections to either your platform’s online services or the Rockstar Game Services.
Just thought I'd leave this here in case anyone else was thinking about loading up GTA V or Red Dead, no wonder it's pirated so much. How bad is their back end that you require an internet connection just to load a damn save game in singleplayer? Holy shit it's going to be funny watching the whole thing fall over.
