Once again, too many posts to meet the limit. Oh, and it turns out the post about the Last of Us creators being idiots about videogames was a hoax. I expect them to be idiots, but the post about them was false.
Science
WiFi can be used to recognize and track people. It can do a scan of a room without needing enormous XRay machines or other devices. The wifi set only needs a very small amount of wavelength to do this. Seriously cool stuff.
NASA plans to put someone in space for a year.
Videogames
The programs to make Donkey Kong 64 were pretty cool. The software had a lot of what we use today, but took way longer.
Unity, the videogame engine company, is set to fire 300 people from staff. This is a blow to indie game makers because that was the leader for a long time. It also means the really cool broadcast tech won't be finished. The tech used scanned people and a game engine to let the viewer see the game from any angle for live or replay. I hope it continues because I have wanted that since the 360 days.
Speaking of which, Microsoft has an AI Avatar creator. Just put in a picture and the AI creates a character based on that. If you're smart, use another program to create people who don't exist and then this program. Bam, you have a cast for a game or show.
Entertainment
Disney is to train their actors on how to not offend the Chinese. Expect Taiwan to never be mentioned again.
Nickelodeon recognizes union for production workers. There's a lot of different positions here, but it's for all the behind the scenes workers for shows.
Comixology just lost most of their founding members. This includes the people who set up the pages and how they appeared on your phone screen.
Google went over all the AI programs they are working on. One photo NeRF looks cool. I keep hoping someone uses AI imagery, puts it in NeRF and creates a new 3D thing.
There is no real category for this, so I place it at the bottom. Palantir tells people to quit if they don't like the military contracts. It's a data analysis company with many contracts for various militaries. Why is this important? The company said this at the WEF meeting in Davos Switzerland.
Feel free to make separate posts with one of these links. Hopefully the fun ones brighten your day so the sadder ones aren't as bad.
