An example:

Liberal: "We are currently at 0. I want 100!"

Conservative: "I want to stay at 0."

Liberal: "Let's be reasonable and meet in the middle. 50?"

Conservative: "Alright. 50. Look how levelheaded I am."

A week passes.

Liberal: "Okay, I don't like 50 anymore. Now I want 150!"

Conservative: "How dare you? I will defend 50 until the day I die."

Liberal: "Let's be reasonable..."

Rinse and repeat.
