Guess what? Cultural products like those marketing ads have some truth to them. Americans were flat out better off in the 60s. You could have the house and picket fence and nuclear family on a single income salary at the factory. Goods cost less in real dollars and your paycheck went longer.

What you're reciting now through other means is the basic leftist mantra that human beings were always just as crooked, greedy, deceptive, and debased as they are today, it was just hidden more effectively in the past. This is not true. The existence of vice in the past does not erase the vastly better rates of dual-parent heterosexual parenting, for example. At the same time, certain phenomena like the lead poisoning crime wave and the iron grip of unions did create worse conditions than today. But it is simply intellectually lazy to comfort yourself that your particular failings are no more or less harmful than those of your ancestors.
