Tbh they aren't really different concepts, despite the apparent dichotomy we are given in liberal Western education. If ideal Communism were actually possible, it would be true Democracy* - just with specific economic decisions. It doesn't matter whether it's the Politburo or a democratic vote of your neighbors deciding that your farm is everybody's farm.
(*Yes obviously non-democratic systems of power can be socialist. Many such cases...)
