At some point, pedophiles must have noticed that they had an easier time getting near kids as an openly gay man in drag, than as just an openly gay man. 'He's an elaborate and pristinely painted performer, not a gross ugly pedophile with a pedo-van!' is probably what parents probably thought to themselves.

Ironically, if you want to see peak pedo acceptance, go back before the porn industry and before the sexual revolution. Porn magazines and unchaperoned dating are unironically what put pedophiles underground, for while sex and dating could be accepted in the public sphere, sex and dating with children could not.

So the next time you think the sexual revolution was all terrible, remind yourself of how good pedos had it in a world where they could quietly meet, trade sons and daughters, and appear completely normal.
