He's right. This was an actual rare case of "da jooz" unashamedly changing something for their benefit, and I saw the change happening in my lifetime. (because BC is apparently offensive to them) It's ridiculous because it's the exact same year scale. The reason we are in The Year of Our Lord 2022 is because of Christendom. If people don't like why not switch to the Hebrew or Chinese calendars with completely different base? Why not make a new calendar based on actual scientific premises, like geological eras? We use the Western calendar because that's our culture. Not using BC/AD isn't a matter of science. Just pure activism. It would be like if academia stopped calling the moon the moon and said "Oh no, we now call it Satellite Prime. 'Moon' isn't scientific. It's too Euro-centric." Greater society should treat sCieNcE as a joke.

It was being used in science texts in the 80s and 90s when I was in school.

That is also right. It was being used infrequently and now is used more frequently. Like with social justice warriors, whoever yells and complains the loudest wins - real scientists who thought "this is stupid but whatever" lost and the activist "scientists" won.

This is all in agreement with your OP anyway.
