Totally agreed.
In the end, I think it’s a good thing.
I’ve received death threats on Reddit three times in six months (on different accounts). For dissenting. For interrupting the circlejerk. That should be enough to put anyone off…
But it also makes me care much less about their stupid sports.
The whole shit with this game, the “racism scandal”, the troon worship (see other post), banning people from the sub/other forums for merely being against lockdowns elsewhere on Reddit, and now the psychos from that post - fuck it.
I’ll go watch the Grand Final at the pub (better, anyway), and toast the televised game (and TV news) farewell, I think. Because this is just… Absurd.
And less tv has got to be a good thing.
I can always go to local games in person, or even be involved in the sport in other ways.
I do not need the insane woke bureaucracy of the national league, the television, or fucking Reddit to tell me what to think, lol…
So… I’m kind of ok with this. My interest was waning anyway. This just killed it, perhaps for good.
Silver linings.
Ironically, my direct ancestors were involved in the codification of the rules for this sport (yes, really), so I do wonder how they would feel…
They didn’t live to see the “birth” of television, or even Abos be given the vote (which took until the 1960s, amazingly), so I imagine they would probably appreciate the irony.
Community sport is much more enjoyable anyway. So I’m happy with that.
