Second of all, could it be as basic as trying to introduce the idea of transition through humor? With the idea that if the child finds it funny, they'll dress up to emulate it and give the mother a chance to push turning boys into girls?

I was thinking it would play out something like this.

Mother takes child to drag show, who laughs at inappropriate jokes. Child dresses up in mother's clothes to tell their own inappropriate jokes, like they saw that day. Mother sees it, argues to father that child is trans. Threatens divorce if transition isn't done, bullies child into accepting it.
