It occurred to me recently that all the old warnings about overpopulation-related dystopias - and non-fiction warnings as well - from the 60s to about the 80s started at roughly Population Eight Billion. (The pooh-bears started pushing it up to 10-15 billion after we hit Pop 5B, then started telling us to stop worrying about it because humans r magic.)

Anyway, the general message was, don't let population get that high, or you'll just be BEGGING for authoritarian/apocalyptic nightmares (and shit, the fiction ones assumed cultural and racial homogeneity!)
